Phthalates May Be Sneaking In Your Bath

Since I have entered this business I have taken notice to the hot debate over using fragrance in bath and body products. You have those who think like me. I don't have a fear of using fragrance, essential oils or parfums in my products. I am very selective of the quality of product I use, therefore I steer away from harmful or controversial ingredients. Then you have those who feel that if you have to have a scent in the product you should only use essential oils. Then there are those who are against any fragrance of any kind.

It's not hard to find a debate over this issue. The world is changing and people are becoming more aware of how to properly care for their bodies, inside and out. I came across these topic while researching the issue over phthalates in fragrances. Phthalates (pronounced "thah-lates") are chemical plasticizers that have been widely used since the 1950s to soften plastics that would otherwise be brittle and crack when bent. It's hard to not purchase a product today that doesn't have phthalates and some fashion. In fact, phathalates may be sneaking in your bath. You'll find it in personal care items as they're used to help lubricate other substances, help lotions penetrate and soften the skin, and help fragrances last longer.

Phthalates are everywhere, and the health risks are worrying. How bad are they really?

As per government law, yes, I only list my scents as "fragrance or parfum" on my labels. I take extra care to stay on top of this industry to insure that the products I provide are not only nourishing, but as chemical free as possible. The great thing about having control over what goes in my products is the fact that I have the option to use fragrances and other ingredients that are phthalate free.

Let's have a discussion about this. Tell me, what concerns do you have regarding phthalates? Is this news to you? Is this something you consider when making your purchases?
